Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta hosted the CYUT–AMIKOM Academic Engagement agenda together with delegates from Chaoyang University of Technology (CYUT), Taiwan, and Chung Shan Medical University to discuss opportunities for academic cooperation and international research collaboration. The meeting, held in the Citra 1 Hall of Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta (18/11), was designed to strengthen institutional partnerships through strategic dialogues involving faculty leaders, professors, and students from both countries. The engagement aimed to expand international academic relations and foster knowledge development through collaborative programs.

The agenda was attended by several academics from CYUT’s Department of Information and Communication Engineering, including Prof. Huang Yung-Fa, Associate Prof. Chen Jong-Shin, Assistant Prof. Lim Zi Yi, and Dr. Sharma Alok Kumar (Postdoctoral Researcher). From Chung Shan Medical University, participants included Prof. Chang Yen-Ching, Chang Yu-Lung (Bachelor student), and Yoshua Richard (double Master student). Meanwhile, Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta was represented by Arief Setyanto, S.Si., M.T., Ph.D., Vice Rector IV for Cooperation and Development; Prof. Dr. Kusrini, M.Kom., Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science; Emha Taufiq Luthfi, S.T., M.Kom., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences; Sudarmawan, M.T., Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology; and several Heads of Study Programs under the Faculty of Computer Science.

In his welcoming remarks, Arief Setyanto expressed his appreciation to CYUT and CSMU delegates for attending and exploring possibilities for cross-country cooperation. Arief emphasized that Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta is committed to expanding global academic collaboration so that both students and lecturers may benefit from international learning experiences.

“We hope this meeting results in concrete collaborations through academic programs, joint research, and knowledge exchange that strengthen both institutions,” Arief stated.

During the session, Prof. Huang Yung-Fa, a senior representative from CYUT’s Department of Information and Communication Engineering, expressed his gratitude for AMIKOM’s warm reception. He stated that the meeting served as an excellent opportunity for both universities to explore deeper collaboration, as CYUT views AMIKOM as a strategic partner due to their shared focus on technological advancement and research-driven innovation.

“I hope this engagement will become the beginning of long-term collaboration, not only in research but also in student exchange and mutually supportive academic programs,” he added.

During the academic presentation, Prof. Dr. Kusrini, M.Kom., Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, introduced the structure of the faculty, which hosts more than 6,500 students across nine study programs ranging from Diploma to Doctoral levels. She also showcased a number of research achievements and student accomplishments that align well with potential international collaboration with CYUT. She noted that many research areas within the Faculty of Computer Science match the focus areas of CYUT professors.

“We see many intersections between our research fields and those of the professors in Taiwan. This alignment opens significant opportunities for deeper academic and research collaboration,” said Prof. Kusrini.

The academic discussion grew more engaging when CYUT delegates expressed strong interest in expanding research cooperation in artificial intelligence, communication systems, AIoT, and other applied fields. They conveyed appreciation for the various innovations developed at Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta, especially those involving artificial intelligence, disaster mitigation systems, and international collaboration projects.

“We see strong synergy. Several of your research initiatives go in a very similar direction to ours in Taiwan. This is a promising opportunity to establish more concrete collaboration,” Prof. Huang remarked.

The discussion continued with a focus on joint research possibilities. Taiwanese researchers from Machine Learning, AIoT, Biomedical Informatics, and Communication Engineering shared their openness to forming joint research teams. They explained that Taiwan provides research funding through the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), which strongly supports international research collaboration, including projects involving overseas universities.

They also described how students in Taiwan may be directly involved in industry-based research projects and receive funding as Research Assistants—an opportunity that sparked enthusiasm among AMIKOM representatives due to its alignment with global skill-building needs for students.

“This is not only about research but also about opening international career pathways for students,” said one of the CYUT Participants

Representatives from Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta responded with equal enthusiasm. Faculty leaders and study program heads conveyed their readiness to submit lists of lecturer expertise, active research topics, and laboratory portfolios that may become the foundation for collaborative initiatives.

“I believe technology grows fastest when we work together. We see strong alignment between AMIKOM’s and CYUT’s research directions. This is the right moment to start something bigger,” Prof. Kusrini added.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to follow up through virtual meetings and academic document exchange, including priority research topics and lecturer expertise profiles. Both institutions expressed hope that this collaboration would contribute meaningfully to academic development and expand international opportunities for students and lecturers.

With the successful completion of this agenda, Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta and CYUT remain optimistic that the academic partnership between the two institutions will continue to advance and produce collaborative programs that contribute to the development of science and technology.
